Applause for the Wan Smolbag Theatre

"The single best thing I have done during the three years of the Sustainable Logging Project was to ask Wan Smolbag Theater to design and perform a play on sustainable logging practices."  David Wood, Director of the AusAID funded Triumph over social stress Vanuatu Sustainable Logging Project.

"I am the GM at Island Cable TV-Pohnpei. We have all enjoyed the program very much. But let me give you a bit on our operation. We are receiving 10 channels of pre-recorded programs recorded in the San Francisco Bay area covering 24 hours per day. We also receive 4 channels off the PanAm 2 Satellite and two local channels. One for "Bill Board" advertising and announcements and lastly our own local channel. this is the channel where your program was aired and aired and aired. People can call in to ask to se any of our local programs and when there are enough requests, we go ahead and run them. "Kasis Road" is one that has been well received and we have many requests to repeat the program. This one is right on the mark. Keep up the good work." David O. Cline. Island Cable TV.

"On behalf of the Australian Development Studies Network, I would like to thank you and the members of the theatre group for participating in our conference "Education for Sustainable Development: Getting it Right". The group added a new and exciting dimension to the conference, providing a concrete example of new approaches to learning. We have had very considerable feedback from participants at the conference Bringing laughter to deep awareness and there is little doubt that the highlight of the conference proceedings was the workshop Wan Smolbag ran. To see some very senior Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade personnel and some equally senior academics singing and doing "statue pictures" was important. It provided an atmosphere where people were prepared to discuss important issues in a true sense of collaboration and consultation rather than talking past one another, which is what often happens in these forums."

"Alan Walker College of Evangelism exists to research and teach effective, responsible evangelism. Many of the national churches in the Pacific are affiliated with the College and send their leaders and emerging leaders for training. "Kasis Road" video is a most valuable resource that is used in some of our courses. It has a profound impact on our students, especially through its power to touch emotion and the mind."

"In addition to the VIP radio jingle, the use of Wan Smolbag's "VIP Play" has contributed to community enthusiasm in building and maintaining VIP toilets. According to the Rural Sanitation Team, the play makes their job of educating communities much easier as the play highlights the ways in which diseases are spread through poor sanitation. As the play is extremely humorous and therefore enjoyable, viewers attention is kept and this is how "the message" gets across so well. Again, we are sure a workshop or meeting environment would not get across as effectively."
